Shanty Shack and the Santa Cruz Calendar So Far
The June mixer at Shanty Shack is the Santa Cruz night on the 2026 calendar so far. It brought the same format Singles Mingle uses everywhere else in the Bay Area and Northern California: an RSVP on the site, a three hour window, and a room of local singles who would rather meet face-to-face than keep swiping.
Being honest about it, Santa Cruz is a newer city for the mixers, and the calendar here is thinner than in San Jose or San Francisco. Mostly it comes down to finding the right venues and dates. Adeline books new cities as she finds the right spots, and every new date gets posted on the events calendar and on this page as soon as it is confirmed.
What would a Santa Cruz night look like going forward? The same as anywhere: mostly free entry, sometimes $10 at the door, never any online payment. Most mixers are 21 & Up, so anyone from UC Santa Cruz grad students to longtime Westside locals is welcome as long as they are of age and single. Some nights around the region are age editions, like 35 & Up or 50 & Up, designed for a crowd closer to your stage of life. If those sound like your speed, the singles events over 35 page explains how they run, and they are worth watching for as the Santa Cruz calendar grows.
LGBTQ+ Mixers are part of the lineup too, roughly monthly around the Bay Area. None has been held in Santa Cruz yet, but the nearest so far have been in San Jose and Sunnyvale. The LGBTQ+ singles mixers page keeps track of how they work.
Highway 17 Works in Both Directions
Highway 17 is the road everyone in Santa Cruz has opinions about. It winds over the Santa Cruz Mountains, and it is the main link between the coast and the South Bay. For mixer purposes, that road cuts both ways.
Coming into Santa Cruz, singles from San Jose and the rest of the South Bay can make the trip for a weekend mixer and turn it into a beach day. A Sunday afternoon mixer, which often runs something like 3 to 6 PM or 4 to 7 PM, pairs nicely with a walk on West Cliff or the Wharf beforehand. The Highway 17 Express bus also connects downtown Santa Cruz with San Jose Diridon Station, for anyone who would rather not drive the curves at night.
Heading out of Santa Cruz works too. When there is no local date, the closest mixers are over the hill in San Jose, where Britannia Arms Almaden, The Willow Den, Mexico Lindo and Mimosas in Willow Glen have all hosted this year. Almaden in particular is a straightforward drive once you come down 17 and pick up Highway 85. Mountain View and Sunnyvale are a bit farther along 85.
Down the coast, Highway 1 connects Santa Cruz with the beach towns to the south, so singles from mid and south county can reach a downtown Santa Cruz venue without much trouble. For dates over the hill, the San Jose singles events page covers the closest South Bay mixers.
Coming alone is completely normal, wherever you are driving from. Mixers are held at public venues, and the room is full of people who came to meet someone new.
